The Gate of the Carpathians is an eco-tourist destination created by the foundation the Mountain Ecology Centre (MEC) for the regions lying between two important protected areas: Piatra Craiului National Park and Bucegi Natural Park, including the villages of the communes of Fundata, Moieciu and Bran. Some of the identifying features of the region are the natural and cultural diversity, the unique views offered by the mountain pasture landscapes, characterised by limestone hills intermittently covered in woods, grasslands, or pastures, as well as the cliffs and screes. The different habitats are endowed with a vast variety of flora and fauna.

Sometimes you have got the feeling that time literally stands still! You can walk along the cowherds’ paths or hike the trails, you can meet craftsmen who are still using centuries-old techniques, or try out the local cuisine. This is the perfect all-year destination not only for families, but also for hikers, mountain runners, and cyclists.
